The Tarka Rail Association (at the time the North Devon Rail Users Group) is believed
to be the first group of its type in the country to have produced a study of the
environmental impact of the use of various modes of transport for journeys from its
area.
The report was commissioned by the group from the Envision partnership, a well known
team of environmental consultants in the South West.
Comparisons were made for a range of journeys of varying length, utilising road ,
rail, and even air travel, and even provided an analysis of various modes of freight
transport.
